I had high hopes.
The cinematography and effects are the high-point for me. I had the opportunity to watch a 3D showing at an IMAX. No disappointment there.
The cast of characters is great. The actors playing the characters are all very good. The cast is impressive. Contrary to some reviewers I even enjoyed the comic relief provided by the fat, pensive, alcoholic version of Thor.
The problem for me is that Endgame dilutes the sinister conclusion of Infinity War. I loved the ending of Infinity War. When I finally decided to see Infinity War on Netflix I wasn't expecting an ending from a Marvel movie that would ask difficult questions about morality and perspective. What was annoying about Endgame is that the story uses a hokey motif like time travel to unwind the dark and sinister implications of Infinity War. It takes the uneasy moral questions left at the end of Infinity War and transforms the narrative into a flattened, predictable superhero formula written to please mass audiences.
